Back in February 2022, I blogged about Yorkshire’s Michelin starred restaurants and at the time, the number of Michelin starred restaurants in Yorkshire had just risen from 6 to 7.
Last week the latest Michelin Guide 2026 was published and I am pleased to report that this number has now risen into double figures to 10. This is great news for Yorkshire’s thriving fine dining scene, but this news is also backed up by the fact that there are also so many Michelin Plate restaurants featuring in the guide.
The Michelin Plate still recognises the outstanding quality of the restaurants food and drink offering, as well as indicating that the restaurants are very close to receiving Michelin Star status. There are now 25 Michelin Plate recognised restaurants in Yorkshire.
Looking back at the list of starred restaurants from 4 years ago, it did include Michael O’Hare’s Leeds based The Man Behind the Curtain. Whilst this restaurant closed a couple of years ago handing back its Michelin Star, Michael O’Hare is launching a new venture in Boston Spa soon called Lamentation. This small 16 cover restaurant is bound to be a head turner and what odds would you get for it receiving a star next year with O’Hare’s amazing creativity.

But 6 of the other 7 restaurants continue to hold onto their Michelin Stars. They are:
The Pipe and Glass – South Dalton
The Angel Inn – Hetton
Shaun Rankin at Grantley Hall – Ripon
Roots – York
The Black Swan – Oldstead
The Star Inn at Harome – Harome
So who are the new boys since 2022?
Restaurant Myse - Hovingham

Well back in 2024 – Restaurant Myse in Hovingham was awarded a Michelin Star just a year after it was opened by Josh and Victoria Overington. I blogged about this restaurant previously at the time and you can read that here: https://www.realyorkshireblog.com/post/restaurant-myse-innovative-michelin-starred-fine-dining-in-hovingham
Forge at Middleton Lodge - Richmond

Then in 2025, Yorkshire received another Michelin Star when Forge at Middleton Lodge Estate near Richmond in North Yorkshire received the award. They not only retained their Michelin Star they also retained their Michelin Green Star which not only recognises the quality and consistency of the cooking but also the restaurants continued commitment to
sustainable practice.

The 200 acre Middleton Estate and surrounding countryside helps inspire the cooking and provides many of the ingredients, with Head Chef Jake Jones working closely with the gardening team to supply the kitchen fresh produce. It’s worth mentioning that Jake was awarded the title Michelin Young Chef of the Year in 2024, so was always destined for great things!
So that took the number of Michelin starred restaurants up to 8 last year, but in February 2026 two new starts were awarded to Yorkshire Restaurants.
Joro – Sheffield

Michelin said of Joro’s recognition…
“JÖRO’s move to a smartly converted 19th-century former mill on the outskirts of Sheffield made it one of the most exciting and impressive (re)openings of the year. Luke French’s cooking is focused and flavourful, with his tasting menu being full of invigorating combinations and top-quality ingredients. Dishes are engagingly presented with obvious pride by the kitchen team”.

This is great news that South Yorkshire can now boast a Michelin starred dining experience too. Joro being the first restaurant to ever achieve the accolade in this part of Yorkshire.
Fifty Two at Rudding Park – Harrogate

People have been talking about Fifty Two gaining a Michelin Star for the past few years so it is great to finally see it gaining recognition with this prestigious award.
Led by Head Chef Adam Degg, the restaurant offers an immersive 10-course tasting menu, featuring produce from the hotel’s 52 kitchen garden beds, and is recognized for its theatrical, intimate dining experience in a converted space.

Michelin said of Fifty Two at Rudding Park…
“The open kitchen acts as a stage at this theatrical restaurant set in the grounds of the Rudding Park hotel. All the semi-communal tables face the chefs as they craft their creative surprise tasting menu, which is filled with assured, technically skilled dishes informed by their homegrown produce and the preserved ingredients that line the shelves.
In a playful touch, ‘Dessert Island Discs’ allows guests to choose a track to play while the puddings are served. Said desserts are a highlight, such as the exquisitely executed honey custard tart crafted from their own honey”.

Other accolades awarded by Michelin of its Yorkshire restaurants include Celebrity Chef Tommy Banks also having a Green Michelin Star for sustainability at The Black Swan at Oldstead.

Whilst not having an actual Michelin Star – The Homestead Kitchen in Goathland does actually hold a Michelin Green Star.

There is also another category of award called The Michelin Bib Gourmand – an accolade just below a star but which also recognised “Good Value” as well as “Good Quality”. Yorkshire has 4 Bib Gourmand restaurants…
Prashad – Drighlington
Bavette – Horsforth, Leeds
